Songdo Central Park, Incheon, South Korea

Songdo Central Park, located in Incheon, South Korea, is one of my favorite day trips in the greater Seoul area. From Camp Casey, it takes about an hour and a half by car, two and half hours by train, a little less if you can catch the express trains on a weekday. The park is a gold mine for photography.

The park is centered around a man-made lake and offers small boat rentals, cocktail barges, bike rentals, scenic walking paths, restaurants, coffee shops and stunning architecture with a mixture of designs inspired by the old and the new.

There's a photo waiting to happen, any direction you point your camera lens.

At the East Boat House, visitors to the park can rent small boats, bicycles and more.

After a delicious lunch, we got back in the car and made the short, 15 minute drive to Wolmido Island. Wolmido is famous as the location where the US Marines made their invasion landing which changed the tide of the Korean War. It has since become a popular boardwalk amusement park and tourist destination, complete with carnival rides and games, street food and restaurants.

There is a local light rail which transports visitors from the Incheon train station to the island, the design and colors are striking, however, the light rail itself was not in operation the day we went.

There is also a wonderful park centrally located at Wolmido, the grounds offer beautiful walking paths complete with gardens and ponds. There are even some old ammunition bunkers that were used when Wolmido was still a military strong hold.

We ended our day trip at the Incheon Chinatown area. It's just another of the countless areas in South Korea that are excellent for street photography. We sat down for some excellent sweet and sour pork, jajangmyeon noodles and spring rolls and followed it up with a short walk around the area.

All in all it was another enjoyable day of photography here in the Republic of Korea.

Sorae Fish Market with Sony A7R and Sony Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 Lens

I recently spent an afternoon at the historic Sorae Fish Market in Incheon, South Korea. It's a lively and colorful place that seafood aficionados would thoroughly. I have been finding myself selecting my Sony A7R paired with the handy Sony Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 lens for street photography. I can't ever see myself going back to a DSLR camera and bulky lenses. Mirrorless cameras such as the Sony A7R are just so convenient due to their light weight and smaller size. I recently traded a Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 lens for a Fuji X100s mirrorless camera, it should arrive in the next 7-10 days and I'll start shooting street photography with that as well. 

You can find an assortment of colorful characters and sights around the fish market and it's a treasure trove for street photographers, offering endless scenes and potential snap shots. I am not a huge fan of fish for my meals, save for good sushi, Chilaen Sea Bass or shell fish. I picked out a small lobster and medium sized King Crab for lunch. They are steamed and served along with a huge plate of raw seafood delicacies, oysters on the half shell, scallops, shrimp, clams and the like. It was a relatively expensive lunch but delicacies cost money don't they?
